Troubleshoot Fing Desktop: Compatibility Information

Which Operating Systems (OS) is Fing Desktop compatible with?

Fing Desktop is compatible with Windows and MAC operating systems.

  • Fing Desktop supports any version of Windows that is still within its extended support lifetime to current versions. We recommend Windows 10. Windows Server versions are not included.
  • Fing Desktop supports macOS 12 Monterey to current version.
  • While we have workarounds for legacy versions, we cannot guarantee they will work and we do not offer support on them. Our recommendation is always to stay up to date with current OS versions.

Workaround for High Sierra and Mojave

Currently, High Sierra/Mojave is not supported for newer versions of Fing desktop. Older versions of Fing desktop such as 2.6.0 was compatible on a best effort basis with High Sierra/Mojave or older versions.

Fing's developers have shared the following workaround where you can download and still use the Fing desktop version 2.6.0 which is compatible with High Sierra/Mojave.

  • Download the original package of the previous version at https://get.fing.com/fing-desktop-releases/mac/Fing-2.6.0.dmg
  • Quit the Fing Desktop App, if running
  • Install the package, without running it
  • Disable the access to get.fing.com domain, so new updates will not be fetched. Follow these steps:
    1. Open the Terminal
    2. Type: sudo nano /etc/hosts
    3. Block access to get.fing.com by adding this line: 127.0.0.1 get.fing.com
    4. Save the file and quit
    5. Type: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
    6. Start the Fing Desktop App. Updates will not be received as they cannot reach the central repository.

Workaround for Catalina and Big Sur

Currently, Big Sur/Catalina is not supported for newer versions of the Fing desktop. Fing desktop older version like 4.3.1 was compatible on a best effort basis with High Big Sur/Catalina or older versions.

We have the following workaround, but please note this can only work if you have downloaded Fing from our official website, get.fing.com.

Please follow the steps:

  1. download the the previous version 3.4.1 from the link https://get.fing.com/fing-desktop-releases/mac/Fing-3.4.1.dmg

  2. Install the .dmg file

  3. When the window error message Fing.app is damaged, don’t click any button

  4. open the terminal and type the command line xattr -cr /Applications/Fing.app and press enter

  5. Click on the cancel button of the warning windows app damaged

  6. open the application folder and run fing app

It is also necessary to disable the automatic update from preferences, close the app and restart the app again!
