A DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server is a network server that automatically provides and assigns IP addresses, default gateways and other network parameters to devices.
A DHCP server automatically assigns the IP address to devices to communicate on the network. Without a DHCP server, the network administrator must manually set up every device that joins the network. DHCP servers usually assign each device a unique dynamic IP address, which changes when the device’s lease for that IP address has expired.
The DHCP Discovery tool finds IPV4 DHCP Servers on your network interfaces and sees the information they offer in response to a DHCP_DISCOVER query. Use this tool to discover DHCP servers and investigate and solve device connectivity issues.
Run DHCP Discovery (Fing Desktop)
To run DHCP Discovery, select Tools>DHCP Discovery.
The Requests timeline shows the sequence of messages exchanged between devices and the DHCP server when the device first joined the network.
