The Fing discovery process automatically recognizes your network devices by brand, model, and OS. It discovers devices on a best effort basis, according to the information made available by the device, for example, the MAC address. Sometimes, devices are not recognized correctly for various reasons including:
- The DHCP server does not refresh when communicating with Fing.
- Limited information is available from specific devices.
- You are using an Apple device with Randomized MAC Addressing (iOS 14 or later ).
If Fing does not accurately recognize a device, you can manually add the correct model or OS information.
If you are using an Apple device to run the Fing app with iOS14 or later, see Randomized MAC Addressing in iOS 14 and later for how to make Fing App work with iOS14.
