Configure Device Alerts

You can choose to be notified  whenever any device connects to or disconnects from your network or only when a specific device connects to your network. 

Set alerts for all devices to get notified when any device connects to your network, including guests or intruders.  Set an alert for a specific device so you can track when that device connects to or disconnects from your network. 

Confirm Devices

When you are alerted that a device has joined your network,  you are prompted to confirm that you accept or recognize that device. Confirming a device means you allow this device to join your network  and that it is trusted device you know.

You can see a list of all the devices that have connected to your network In the Devices window on Fing Desktop, Fing Mobile App and Fing Web App, . Any device attempting to join your network displays an orange question mark next to it. Click this orange question mark icon to allow the device to join your network. If you do not recognise a device, you can block the device from joining your network.

Enable Device Alerts on Fing Web App

You can configure alerts, including specific device alerts, on Fing Web App through the Security or Setup menus or cards.

Enable Alerts for All Devices (Fing Web App)

  1. To get notifications when any device connects to your network, do this:
  2. From the Fing Web App dashboard, select Security from the left navigation menu or click the Security card.
  3. Under Security Settings for Devices, locate the Notifications on new devices setting.
  4. Enable the radio button next to the setting to enable notifications on all devices.

Enable Alerts on Specific Devices

For notifications on specific devices, select Manage next to the Enabled on 0 Device field, and then select the devices you wish to enable alerts on.

Click Apply.

Enable Online Notification for a Single Device on Fing Web App Using the Setup Menu

To get notified when a specific device enters the network, do this:

  1. From the Fing Web App dashboard, select Devices from the left navigation menu.  The Device window displays a list of network devices.
  2. Select the device on which you wish to enable notifications to display the specific device window.
  3. Select Notify on State Change to get notified when the device goes online or offline.

Enable Notification for all Devices on Fing Desktop

  1. From Overview, click Security in the left sidebar or the Check Security button.
  2. Scroll down to the Notifications on new devices are enabled/disabled bar and select Manage.
  3. Turn on Enable Notifications if not already selected.

Enable Notifications for a Specific Device on Fing Desktop

  1. Click Devices in the left sidebar or the blue See all devices button
  2. Select a device. This will take you to the Device details page.
  3. Scroll down to the Notify me when state changes to the right of the page
  4. Turn on Receive a notification when this device goes online or offline

Enable  notifications for all devices: Fing Mobile App, Fing Mobile App Controlled Agent or Monitoring Unit

  1. From Overview, select See Devices> Security .
  2. Scroll down to Notifications are enabled and click the Manage button.
  3. This will bring you to the Notify on new devices page. Enable the on/off toggle switch.

Enable notifications for a specific device: Fing Mobile App, Fing Mobile App Controlled Agent or Monitoring Unit

  • Scroll down to Single device notifications and click the Manage button. The Alerts Page is displayed showing these options.
    • Enable All or Disable All alerts.
    • First seen on network: Turn on to get alerts when new devices join your network.
    • At every change: Turn on to set a default Device Status alert on new devices, meaning you will be alerted whenever new devices join and leave the network.
  • Select your desired setting, and then Click Save in the bottom right corner to save your changes and exit the screen.

State Change Timeout

Changing the State Change Timeout means selecting how long after a device goes online or offline for you to get notified.

Change State Change Timeout in Fing Desktop

  1. Click Devices on the left sidebar
  2. Select a device. The Device details page is displayed.
  3. Scroll down to the Notify me when state changes widget at the right of the screen.
  4. Switch on the on/off button and select a time in the dropdown menu.

Change State Timeout on Fing Mobile App

  1. Click Overview on the bottom toolbar
  2. Click the Online Devices widget or the blue See devices button
  3. Select a device. The Device detail page is displayed.
  4. Scroll down to State change timeout under Notifications.
  5. Click the button with the time on it and select a time.
  6. Click Done.

Change State Timeout on Fing Web App

To specify the device offline detection Interval on Fing Web App, do this:

  1. From the Fing Web App dashboard, select Devices from the left navigation menu.  The Device window displays a list of network devices.
  2. Select the device on which you want to specify the timeout.
  3. Locate the Device Offline Detection Interval and select the pull-down menu to show timeout opions.
  4. Select your desired offline detection interval or leave the default setting at Automatic.
