Assess Network Security

Fing has tools and features to help you keep your network secure from unauthorized access to your wi-fi and devices.   Start securing your network by first assessing your security levels.

You can get an at-a-glance view of your network security level with the Fing security score so that you can understand if any further action is needed.    Here is an example of the security score and checks performed.  In this example, security scored 34 out of 100 so additional action may be needed.

See Security Score and Checks Performed - Fing Desktop

To display the score and checks, select Security from the left navigation pane.   On the desktop app, the security level is represented by both a heatmap and a numeric score.

Confirm your Devices - Fing Desktop

In the this example, the first check prompts you to confirm that discovered devices are authorized on your network.   Click Confirm to display a list of unconfirmed devices.    You can confirm all of them as authorized devices on your network, or some of them if there are some that you don't recognize or are not ready to admit on your network.

Check for Hidden Cameras

The last security check listed on the Security page lets you know if there are any hidden cameras or monitoring devices on your network.

Use Digital Fence to Improve Security (Fing App Controlled Agent Only)

Some security features are available only through the Fing Controlled Mobile App version of Fing.   DigitalFence and Wireless Intrusion Detection provide additional security.

Use DigitalFence to show the Wi-Fi enabled devices within 15 meters of your Fingbox, even if they are not connected to your network.  The DigitalFence shows you what is near your Fingbox in real-time and the historical logs of each device that has been in range of your Fingbox at set times. For example, you can see what time your dog walker arrives and leaves, or if your children are having a house party while you are away. You can also select devices to watch and receive alerts when they move in and out of range of the Fingbox.

For detailed information about using Digital Fence go to Using DigitalFence™

Intrusion Detection protects your network by inspecting incoming packets for attacks, unauthorized access, or misconfigurations.

Manage Wireless Intrusion Detection  (Fing App Controlled Agent Only)

Intrusion Detection is enabled by default.   From the Fing Mobile App Dashboard, select Security and look for the Wireless Intrusion Detection check on the Security window.

Click Manage to view activity.

In this example, the agent controlled by the Fing mobile App has inspected 580 wireless packets in the last 5 minutes to make sure none are malicious.
