Location Permissions on the Fing Mobile App

Location permissions for the Fing App allows the App to read the access point name, and identify and store all devices on the network.

To retain all the networks and device customizations, ensure that you are signed in to the Fing App and that you have enabled all permissions required for the Fing App to operate. To do this, go to phone settings and set location permissions; this will enable the Fing App to read the SSID correctly. Once you have enabled all required permissions, run a scan to see the changes.

With new Android and Apple O.S versions, the location permissions are mandatory for the Fing App to operate and identify all the devices on the network. If you have not enabled the location permissions, every time you scan the network the Fing App will not be able to display the access point name, and the device customizations will be lost and revert to the default value (Generic).

Enable location permissions

To enable the location permissions:

iOS: Go to settings and enable the Recognise Device option to view all information.

Android: Open the Fing App settings and enable the Device Recognition option.

If you are unable to see the location permissions for the Fing App under phone settings:

  1. Open the Fing Mobile App
  2. From Overview, click the Network List (the circular icon with three dots at the top right of the page). Swipe the networks to delete them.
  3. Click the Devices widget
  4. Click the Network tab
  5. Click the blue Edit button
  6. This will open the Edit page. Here, clear the network information including the Address.
  7. Next to the MAP section, there is a small icon to auto-detect location. Click this icon and location permissions will be asked.
  8. Click Save
  9. Log out of the application and then log in again
