Troubleshoot configuration problems to block devices and pause internet access
SOLVING COMMON ISSUES
We've included for you below how to solve some common issues with Block&Pause functionalities.
Change or update the primary blocking device.
When multiple instances of Fing Desktop run on the same network, only one is elected as the blocking device. By default, that is the device you used to accept the terms and conditions to enable the functionality.
If you wish to change the blocking device, a button is available on the Network Page if the original device is not available anymore, e.g., has been replaced. Sometimes, due to particular conditions with VPNs and Virtual Machines running on the PC, that button is not able to work as intended.
If the action of the 'Update' button of the network page under the section 'Pause/Block devices' doesn't perform any action or doesn't work fine, please follow the following instructions:
On Windows:
- Log-out from the Desktop App
- Close the App
- Delete the file C:\Users\<current_user>\AppData\Roaming\FingAgent\conf\fingagent where <current_user> is the windows user currently used
- Kill the Fing Agent Service in the Task Manager
- Open the Desktop app and login again
- Refresh the discovery and open the Network page
- Update the primary blocking device
On macOS:
- Log-out from the Desktop App
- Close the App
- Delete the file /Users/root/.fingagent/conf/fingagent
- Kill the fingagent.bin in the activity monitor
- Open the Desktop app and login again
- Refresh the discovery and open the Network page
- Update the primary blocking device
