Fingbox vs Smart Firewalls : CUJO, Bitdefender Box, Dojo, Disney’s Circle
How is Fingbox different than firewalls?
Fingbox is smarter! Typical firewalls re-route all your internet traffic indiscriminately. This practice can slow down your network to the point of bringing it to a standstill. Fingbox on the other hand actively monitors your network infrastructure and all of your devices without re-routing any traffic unless needed. Fingbox selectively and temporarily re-routes traffic only when you are using features like bandwidth analysis, device blocking and internet pause, without impacting any other device on your network. We designed Fingbox to compliment your existing network set-up and guarantee a hassle free user experience.
The biggest difference between the Fingbox network security and troubleshooting toolkit and devices such as CUJO, Bitdefender Box, Dojo and Disney’s Circle is that Fingbox is not a firewall. This means that the types of threats firewalls and Fingbox are protecting against, and their methods of doing so, are quite different.
Prevention against physical network threats
Firewalls aim to protect from Internet-based threats, such as malware and so filter all your network’s information through them in order to block suspicious activity. In comparison, Fingbox prevents physical network hacking and Wi-Fi eavesdropping (a form of network hacking that goes undetected by firewalls and anti-viruses). It does this with features such as intruder alerts and device blocking. Unlike firewalls, Fingbox also performs troubleshooting on your network to improve your Wi-Fi’s health.
Lightweight monitoring and no network slow downs
In addition, Fingbox uses a very lightweight form of monitoring the status of your devices. On the contrary, firewalls typically re-route all of your network traffic through them so they can inspect the packets of what is being sent over your network.
In the past, some users have cited that firewalls can cause significant network slow downs because they hog or take over your network. In the end, many users may end up turning the device off entirely become the network slow downs become unbearable.
Because Fingbox is not re-routing your traffic through the device there is no risk that Fingbox will slow down your network.
Troubleshooting features
In opposition to firewalls, Fingbox also includes extensive network troubleshooting features which are built to improve the overall performance of your network. Firewalls on the other hand typically focus more on security and less on troubleshooting and therefore don’t usually encompass features for improving network performance.
DigitalFence™ network security feature
A first of its kind feature available in Fingbox is the DigitalFence™, which identifies any device in the vicinity of your Fingbox with Wi-Fi enabled, even if that device is not connected to your network. Read more about the Fingbox DigitalFence™ network security feature.
Firewalls to date have not been released with any DigitalFence™ type network security features.
