Alerts, Emails and Push Notifications
Alerts, emails and push notifications are messages send to you by Fing that tell you what is happening on your network, such as when a device goes offline or a new device enters your network.
- Push notifications and emails inform you of in-app activity such as warnings and standard home checks that are performed.
- Alerts are the in-house Fing tracker which, if configured, let you customise your notifications. Decide what you want notifications about, what kind of notifications you want, when you receive notifications and who gets these notifications.
Note: Fing Desktop App and Fing Mobile App users will receive emails and push notifications. Only Fing Starter and Fing Premium users will receive alerts. Fing Starter users will receive the same alerts as Fing Premium users, with the exception of email notifications, which only Fing Premium users will receive.
Allow Alerts, Emails and Push Notifications on Devices
To receive alerts, emails and push notifications, you need to ensure they are allowed on your device.

You should automatically receive notifications on Fing Desktop. If you do not receive notifications, do this:

- Turn on Allow Notifications.
Emails: You should receive emails from Fing by default on your desktop or mobile. If you do not, check your Spam/Junk folder. If Fing emails are not there, contact support@fing.com

Set alerts for all devices
Setting alerts for all devices means you will get notified when any device connects to your network. You will be notified when a new device enters your network, such as a guest or an intruder on your network.
Set new device alerts: Fing Desktop
- From Overview, click Security in the left sidebar or the Check Security button
- Scroll down to Notifications on new devices are enabled/disabled and turn on Enable Notifications
Alternatively:
- Scroll to Single device notifications and click the Manage button
- This will open the Alerts page. Here you will see different options to set alerts:
- Enable All: This will enable alerts for all devices. Every state change for each device connected to your network will trigger an alert. If you enable all, you will most likely receive many alerts, particularly if you have a large network.
- Disable All: This will disable all alerts
- Click Save in the bottom right corner to save your changes and exit the screen
Set alerts for all devices: Fing Mobile App
- From Overview, click the Security tab, or click the Online devices tab and select Security at the top of the page
- Scroll down to Notifications are enabled and click the Manage button
- This will bring you to the Notify on new devices page. Turn on the on/off switch.
Alternatively:

- This will open the Alerts page. Here you will see different options to set alerts:
- Enable All or Disable All alerts
- First seen on network: Turn on to get alerts when new devices join your network
- At every change: Turn on to set a default Device Status alert on new devices, meaning you will be alerted whenever new devices join and leave the network
- Click Save in the bottom right corner to save your changes and exit the screen
Set alerts for selected devices
Setting alerts for selected devices means you can track a specific device and will be notified if it enters your network. For example, you may want to check what time your child comes home by tracking their phone, or get notified if your smart refrigerator has gone offline and is no longer in operation.
Fing Desktop
- Click Security on the left sidebar or the Check Security button
- Scroll down to Single device notifications and click the Manage button
- This will open the Alerts page. Select the device and turn on.

- Scroll down to Single device notifications and click the Manage button
- This will open the Alerts page. Under Notify on known devices, select the device and turn on.

Confirm devices
When you are alerted that a device has joined your network you will be asked to confirm the device. Confirming a device means you have allowed this device to join your network; they are trusted devices you know.
In Devices on Fing Desktop, Fing Mobile App and Fing Web App, you will see a list of all the devices that have connected to your network. Any device that joins your network will have an orange question mark icon beside them. Click this orange question mark icon and allow the device to join your network. If you do not recognise a device, you can block the device from joining your network.
Set alerts for the status of selected devices
Setting an alert for the status of selected devices means you will get notified when a specific known device goes online or offline, such as when you are monitoring your child's Internet time.

- Click Devices in the left sidebar or the blue See all devices button

Assign users and presence devices
Assigning a user to a device will tell you who owns selected devices on your network, such as family members or home service providers.
You can assign multiple devices to users but only one presence device. A presence device is the device you assign to a user that you will get alerts from. For example, if your child's presence device is their phone, you will be notified if this device has entered your network when your child comes home, or if this device is online or offline. You may have assigned other devices to your child such as their laptop and smart watch, but you will not get alerts if these devices join your network or go online or offline.
To assign a presence device, you must assign users to devices first.

- Click People in the left sidebar

For example, you may receive a false alert when there is a minor loss of connection as opposed to a genuine event of a device leaving a network.

For example, you may want to receive alerts when your dog walker, house cleaner or babysitter are near your home.

- This will take you to the My Networks page. Under My Networks, select the device with the Fingbox icon beside it and click Close.

- Click Security, scroll down and click Digital Fence under the heading Improve your security
- This will take you to the Devices in range page. Under the graph, click New Devices.

The watched device will now appear on your device list. When the device is in range, a small green Wi-Fi icon with an eye in it will appear next to the device. When the device is out of range, this icon will be greyed out.
Note: To stop 'Watching' a DigitalFence device, click Exclude device beside Watch device. Alternatively, select the device in the Online devices widget, press down on the device and a delete option will pop up. Select Delete.
