Fing Web App offers a comprehensive set of tools to easily monitor and manage security at the device and network level from the Fing Security Card on the dashboard. It provides at-a-glance insights into key security measures including new or unrecognized devices, router and port vulnerabilities, and any access point security weaknesses. You can also manage security alerts, for example, to receive notifications of uncrecognized devices, or to receive alerts on specific devices.
To view or manage Fing Security, from the Fing Dashboard, select Security from the navigation menu or click the Security Card.
The Security Card also shows a summary of the state of your network security directly on the dashboard. This is useful as you can see quickly if you need to take action urgently or not.
Click the card to view the full feature set. The Security Window displays your full network security status.
The Security window is categorized in three areas:
- Device Security
- Router Vulnerabilities
- Access Points Security
Note: When you change or configure a Security setting, it is changed on all platforms for your account.
Device Security Settings
The Security Settings section shows you the current status of confirmed or recognized, autoblocked, or blacklisted devices and prompts you to verify and manage your devices.
New today: Informs you if any devices have joined your network in the last 24 hours. If so, click Review to view and confirm that you recognize the device.
Unconfirmed: Informs you about devices that have not been acknowledged that are not new. Click Review to view and acknowledge these devices.
New Device: Enable or disable to get notifications on new devices.
Autoblock: Enable to prevent new devices from entering or disable to allow new devices.
Enabled on <0> Devices: Get notifications on status updates for specific devices. You need to disable New Device alerts in order to use this setting. Select Manage to display the Single Device Notifications window. Select the Device or Devices on which you want to get updates, and then Click Apply.
Blacklisted Devices: Shows devices that you have blocked. Click Manage for more detail if you have at least one blocked device. In this example, the Apple Phone SE is a blocked or blacklisted device. To unblock the device, disable the radio button toggle next to the device name, and then click Apply.
Router Vulnerabilities
The Router Vulnerabilities section shows any router vulnerabilities, for example, open ports, and the automated check interval. You can also change the interval from Daily to Every 2 or 7 days. In this example UPnP, NAT Port Mapping, and Public Access are all disabled so the network has no open ports and is secure. However, at times you may want to enable these settings for easier communication between devices so regular vulnerability checks help you monitor any changes in your security levels.
You can view any vulnerabilities or open ports. Here is an example of an open port. You can see the device information for the open port, the service being used on the port, the port number, and when it was detected.
Access Point Details
The Access Point details show information about overall network security, including SSID/BSSID, DHCP, and WPS.
For example, you might want to check the Security setting on your network. In the example below, the Security level WPA2 is safe. Common secure settings are WPA2 or WPA3 for your home or office network.
In the example, WPS is disabled for best security. WPS enabled means your router allows simplified Wi FI connection without entering a full password.
If the Security field shows that your network is Open as in the example below when using a Wi Fi Hotspot, anyone can connect to it and it is not secure. Consider moving to a different network or using VPN for added safety.
