Set Network Limits (Parental Controls)

You can schedule regular internet downtimes, for example, parental control of internet devices.

You can stop a user's device from accessing the Internet during specific times or days, such as homework time for your children.  Schedules that specify common limits for homework and bedtime are automatically set up for convenience.  You can use these, modify them, or create new schedules.

Use this two-step process to set network limits:

  • Specify the schedule/limits you want to implement or use the defaults.
  • Apply the limits to selected users.

Schedule Network Limits on Fing Web App

To schedule network time limits for users, from the Web App dashboard, do this:

  1. Select the People card, or select People from the left Navigation menu.  The detailed Who's Online window is displayed.
  2. Select the Schedule Internet limits bar to schedule or modify set schedules for internet access.  In this example, three schedules have been set up, one for homework, one for Bedtime, and one for Weekends. The homework schedule  disallows internet access between 3 pm and 5 pm Monday to Friday, 7pm to 8 Am Monday to Friday.   The Homework and Bedtime schedules are set by default so you don't have to change if they work for you.  If you use the default homework and bedtime schedules, continue to Apply the Limits to Selected users.

  • Select the Add Schedule button.
  • The Schedule Internet Downtime window is displayed.
  • Select the Enabled radio button.
  • You can use the existing default schedules shown for homework and bedtime, or make new ones.
  • To create a new schedule, Under Schedule Name, enter a name for the new schedule, for example, homework, evening, and a time frame when the limits apply.

Apply the Limits to Selected Users

  • Select the users that the schedule applies to.  In this example, the schedule applies to Users, James and Paul.

  •  Select Save to Apply the schedule.
