How to Disable Firewalls

Firewalls: Prerequisites

Before you attempt to disable a firewall, confirm the following:

  • You have the most up-to-date version of Fing Desktop, because there are bug fixes and updates on the latest release
  • Can you confirm if you have any VPN connection or any Firewall running on your device which may be blocking the connection of Fing Desktop to its servers

If you have any Firewall, you can either disable it or put Fing Desktop in 'whitelist'. The latter allows Fing Desktop to make the connection to its servers.

Windows

If restarting the PC has not resolved the issue, launch the following commands from Command Prompt as administrator:

  • Stop service command: sc stop Fing.Agent
  • Start service command: sc start Fing.Agent

Fing agent needs the Windows libraries which are installed with the NpCap package during Fing Desktop installation. This makes packet capture and filtering useful for our engine to protocol analyzers and network monitors.
Fing agent service cannot work properly without the correct installation of WinPcap.
Please open the command prompt and return the output:

  • sc query npf

Ensure the NpCap has been installed correctly and is running properly.
